FAQs

Get the low down on solar from Citrus Solar.

How does solar work?

When sunlight hits a solar panel, a chemical reaction occurs, producing Direct Current (DC) power. That DC power flows to an inverter where it is transformed into Alternating Current (AC) power, the type of power that is used throughout your home. Most of that energy will be used by you (decreasing the amount you pull from the electric grid), and any leftover energy gets pushed back to the grid, for which you receive a credit from the electric utility.

What other energy solutions do you recommend?

Depending on the utility, solar coupled with energy management technology (and, in some cases, an energy efficiency retrofit of their home) can create the optimal savings scenario. Batteries, load controllers, and / or smart appliances can sometimes help a resident achieve the best result.

How do you size a system for my house?

Ultimately, we size the system that produces the greatest savings for you. Sometimes that results in a system that offsets 100% of your consumed energy. But other times, it could be something closer to 50% offset. Your historical average consumption, shading from trees, roof limitations, and your utility’s unique rate plan structure are all taken into consideration when determining the right size.

What happens after I reserve my quote?

You chill. We take it from here, and that includes system design, permitting, utility documentation, scheduling the install, and system activation. But we’ll keep you close should we have any questions about scheduling, signatures, or any dogs we need to watch out for.

What is an energy management system?

Utility savings is achieved in two complementary ways: 1) Producing your own electricity (which we solve with solar), and 2) Reducing or managing when and how you consume energy (solved with energy management technology). An energy management system helps you to avoid consuming energy from the grid when it is most expensive.

What tax or utility incentives are available for me?

The recent passing of the Inflation Reduction Act made going solar more affordable than ever before. The government now offers a tax credit equal to 30% of the total cost of the system. The state of Arizona also provides a $1,000 state tax credit. In some cases, utilities offer incentives in the form of rebates or preferential rate plans that compensate you for energy that you produce and push back to the grid. In all cases, you should consult with your tax accountant to ensure you are able to take advantage of the incentives that exist.

Is solar right for everyone?

No. It’s not right for everyone and we’ll be sure to tell you if it’s not. We want everyone to have access to the benefits of solar, but not all houses work well with it. We won’t lead you on.

What products does Citrus Solar provide?

We specialize in the things that give the biggest bang for your buck – solar and energy management technology. We’ll help you get access to important rebates and incentives to decrease your overall costs, making the choice a no brainer. And when we think other solutions are best for you, we’ll make sure to direct to where you can find them.

How can you offer lower prices than other companies?

We cut out the middleman! You’d be surprised how much of your friends’ and neighbors’ solar system price went to paying high sales commissions. Instead, we provide one low price up-front, and we include the highest quality products so that you can be sure you’re getting the best…for the least!

How long does the installation & activation process take?

While it’s a pretty seamless process, timing may vary based on how long it takes to get approved permitting from the local jurisdiction and permission to interconnect from the utility. Typically we see the process from final documentation to system installation and activation taking anywhere between 3 and 7 weeks.

Does solar make sense in SRP?

Of course it does! But it’s important to understand SRP’s unique solar rate plans first. When going solar in SRP territory, you’ll be placed on one of three rate plans. We recommend the Customer Generation Plan, which generally yields the greatest savings. However, this plan introduces a new bill element - the demand charge. We can manage this charge easily with energy management technology. But you should understand how it works. You can learn more about this SRP rate plan here.

What’s your favorite taco spot in The Valley?

Glad you asked. The Valley is stacked with options, but right now we’re really liking Joyride Taco House. The Tuesday deal on tacos can’t be beat. Ask again in a few months and we’ll likely have a different answer.
